The Space Application on Environment (SAFE) with the collaboration of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Japan, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) of India, Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) of Thailand, and AFSIS Secretariat had conducted the Training Program on Satellite-Derived Agrometeorological Data for AFSIS’s Rice Growing Outlook (RGO) for Agriculture Management in the ASEAN on 11 July 2022 as a virtual program.
The Department of Planning and Statistics (DPS), Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), Cambodia, together with AFSIS Secretariat, had conducted the Training Workshop on Data Tabulate analyze results on 29-30 June 2022 and the Wrap-up meeting on 1 July 2022 as the parts of the project for Supporting Agricultural Survey on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in ASEAN Region (SAS-PSA) in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
The 20th Focal Point Meeting of ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) was held on 8-9 June 2022 in Jakarta, Indonesia as the first time for AFSIS Focal Point Meeting to hold a hybrid meeting. It was organized by the AFSIS Secretariat and hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture of Republic of Indonesia.
On 1 June 2022, AFSIS Secretariat held the meeting with Stantec under the “Technical Assistance to the EU-ASEAN Green Initiative” at meeting room 1, Innovation building, Office of Agriculural Economics, Bangkok.
On 23-24 May 2022, AFSIS Secretariat was invited by the Secretary General of the Office of Agricultural Economics, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand as Chair of APEC Policy Partnership on Food Security (PPFS) to attend the APEC PPFS Webinar on “Sharing good practices on Sustainable Agricultural Development through the Principle of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy” at Pullman King Power Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand.
On 18 May 2022, AFSIS Secretariat had been invited to participate in the conference titled “Agricultural Database Development for Better Policy Making and Ensuring Food Security” as a joint event of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) and the Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CLSS) via Zoom platform.
The 42nd Meeting of the ASEAN Food Security Reserve Board (AFSRB) hosted by Cambodia was held as a Video Conference through Zoom platform due to the COVID-19 pandemic on 11 May 2022. There were 37 participants from AFSRB Secretariat, AFSRB Member States namely; Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, ASEAN Secretariat, APTERR Secretariat, OECD, and AFSIS Secretariat attended the meeting.
On the 21st April 2022, AFSIS Secretariat had attended the virtual preparatory meeting which was conducted by the Space Applications for Environment (SAFE) Executive Board coordinated by the Co-Chairs Dr. Shantanau Bhatawdekar from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Dr. Shin-ichi Sobue from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for the training program on "Satellite-derived Agrometeorological Data for AFSIS’s Rice Growing Outlook (RGO)”.
According to the Department of Agriculture (DA), the affected areas caused by Tropical Storm "Agaton" (international name: "Megi") were Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, SOCCSKSARGEN and Caraga. As of the latest bulletin from DA, 17,925 hectares of agricultural lands have been reportedly damaged which amounted to P725.2 million in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Agaton’s onslaught.
According to the Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), the strong easterly winds which are prevailing near the Gulf of Thailand and the Southern parts of Thailand have influenced the weather situation in these 8 provinces in the Southern of Thailand namely, Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani, Phatthalung, and Chumphon, Songkhla to have heavy to very heavy rainfall during 5-8 April 2022.
