On May 6, 2021, Center for Agricultural Information (CAI), Agricultural Development Policy and Planning Division, Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand, had conducted a virtual workshop with AFSIS Secretariat regarding the Data Analysis Training Workshop as a part of project for Supporting Agricultural Survey on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in ASEAN Region or SAS-PSA project in Thailand. In this regard, Mr. NIIMI Tomohiro, Japanese Expert, have performed as a lecturer in this workshop with the assistance of Ms.Worada Wongsud, the Japanese Secretary.
On February 19, 2021,heavy rains in Indonesia caused the breaking of embankments and the overflowing of some rivers, which led to inundation and flooding in Central Jakarta, west Jakarta, East Jakarta, South Jakarta, Bekasi City, Bekasi Regency, Depok City, Bogor Regency, Tangerang Regency, South Tangerang City, Tangerang City, Bogor City, and Karawang Regency. 5 people dead, 46,772 families or 176,157 people were affected by the flood and 7,040 families or 31,396 people have been evacuated.
Mr. Pollachet Tracho, Deputy Secretary General, Office of Agriculture Economics (OAE), and AFSIS Secretariat led by Dr. Waraporn Saelee, AFSIS Manager, and Mr. NIIMI Tomohiro, Japanese Expert, had traveled to Chachoengsao province, Thailand, on 15-17 March 2021 to observe enumerators on conducting pilot survey in the project for Supporting Agricultural Survey on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in ASEAN region or SAS-PSA project in Thailand.
The ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) in cooperation with theRemote Sensing Technology Center of Japan (RESTEC) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) organized the Japan Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science or “Sakura Science Program 2021”. The program objective is to improve human capacity, especially for young generation officers who will play a critical role in the field of science and technology in the future, for agriculture knowledge and its utilization through Japanese science and technology.
The 3rd iteration of the CAPI online training courses will now be conducted jointly by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations-Regional Office For Asia and the Pacific (FAO RAP).
National agricultural policies are based on statistical data, and the areas under rice cultivation are the most important. A project under the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF) / Space Applications For Environment (SAFE) Initiative aimed to develop an evidence-based method for this verification (a “Validation Framework”) to improve their statistical accuracy using satellite-derived rice cultivated area.
On December 23, 2020, AFSIS Secretariat and Center for Agricultural Information (CAI), Agricultural Development Policy and Planning Division, Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand, had conducted Enumerator Training Workshop as a part of project for Supporting Agricultural Survey on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in ASEAN Region or SAS-PSA project in Thailand.
AFSIS Secretariat had an opportunity to consult with Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation, Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (FAORAP) regarding a project for Supporting Agricultural Survey on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in ASEAN Region (SAS-PSA) related to SDG indicator 2.4.1.
On November 29, 2020, there was an eruption of Mount Ile Lewotolok or Mount Ile Ape, in Lembata District at East Nusa Tenggara Province in Indonesia. The affected areas which are 17 villages in Ile Ape Sub-District and 9 villages in East Ile Ape Sub-District were expected to be damaged from this eruption. More than 2,700 people from these 26 villages were evacuated to the safe zone.
On the 4th of December 2020, AFSIS Secretariat has attended the Volunteering activity “Big Cleaning Day” managing by the Office of Agricultural Economics, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand.
