On August 28, 2024, the AFSIS Secretariat was invited to attend the Thailand Security Dialogue 2024: “Sustainable Peace under Geopolitical Shifts”. The conference was organized by the Strategic Studies Center (SSC), the Commandant of the National Defence Studies Institute (NDSI). The conference aims to provide a platform for the presentation and exchange of academic perspectives on security situations covering their impacts on global and regional peace and security, to gather valuable ideas and perspectives, and to produce analyses leading to recommendations to promote sustainable peace in the region.

Floods and Landslides in Mindanao (Effects of Southwest Monsoon, ITCZ, & INVEST 98W), Philippines on 05 – 15 July 2024

Heavy rain was detected in the Southwest Monsoon, Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), and Low-Pressure Area (INVEST 98W) from June 18 to July 2, 2024. The heavy rainfall affected the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the Zamboanga Peninsula in Region 9, and Davao in Region 11. Additionally, tension cracks and rain-induced landslides occurred in the province of Sultan Kudarat in Region 12.
