Heavy rain was detected in the Southwest Monsoon, Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), and Low-Pressure Area (INVEST 98W) from June 18 to July 2, 2024. The heavy rainfall affected the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the Zamboanga Peninsula in Region 9, and Davao in Region 11. Additionally, tension cracks and rain-induced landslides occurred in the province of Sultan Kudarat in Region 12.

Moving forward, the Southwest Monsoon is affecting the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. It brought heavy to intense rains (100-200 mm) over BARMM, Zamboanga Peninsula, Sultan Kudarat, and Misamis Occidental from July 12 to 13, 2024. The rainfall is expected to decrease to moderate to heavy rains (50-100 mm) on July 14, 2024.

Based on the combined reports from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) issued on July 15, 2024, the following impacts have been recorded due to the incidents in the affected areas:

  • The following incidents were reported in some areas of Region 9, Region 10, Region 11, Region 12, and BARMM: 40 flooded areas.
  • A total of 60,841 families or 54,289 persons were affected. A total of 2 dead, 2 injured, and 1 missing person were reported.
  • A total of 55 road sections and 3 bridges were affected. A total of 73 damaged houses and the estimated cost of damage to infrastructure is 700,000 PHP.
  • A total of 1 city/municipality was affected by a lack of water supply.
  • 283.95 hectares of crops were flooded, resulting in a production loss of 396.38 million tons and a production loss/cost of damage amounting to 17,879,687.5 PHP.

To prevent and support affected areas, the following actions have been taken in collaboration with the government organization:

NDRRMOC:

  • Continuous monitoring and dissemination of warnings and advisories.
  • Dissemination of Emergency Alerts and Warning Messages to affected provinces.
  • Continuous coordination with OCDROs and NDRRMC Member-Agencies.
  • Conducted rapid damage assessment and needs analysis.

PAGASA:

  • Continues to monitor the weather situation and release regular updates and advisories.
  • Advises people living near mountain slopes, river systems, and low-lying areas, as well as Local Disaster Management Councils, to take necessary precautionary measures.

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD):

68.51 million PHP is available in other DSWD Field Offices to support the relief needs of families affected by the effects of the Southwest Monsoon through inter-Field Office augmentation.
