On 31 July 2024, The AFSIS Secretariat participated in a significant meeting with the International Institute for Trade and Development (ITD), the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Secretariat, a professor from Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), United Kingdom, and experts from various fields. The purpose of the meeting was to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among international experts, aiming to develop strategies aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and conduct a comprehensive global environmental strategic scan to analyze and assess emerging trends, risks, and opportunities relevant to sustainable development.
On the occasion, Mr. Suphakit Chareonkul, Executive Director of, the International Institute for Trade and Development gave the opening remark and warm welcome to all attendees and introduced the background of the project and the objectives of the project by Assistant Professor Dr. Awanwee Petchkongkaew, Co-Founder and Co-Director of the International Joint Research Center on Food Security (IJC-FOODSEC)
During discussions on the Global and Regional Trade and Food Industry secession about the possible futures or key driving factors that may affect people in the future and emerging trends are relevant to the food industry. Dr. Sumanya Ngandee, AFSIS Manager, participated in the discussion on this topic and gave information on the AFSIS objectives and operations, emphasizing the ACO EWI RGO Core Report published on our website, which garnered significant interest among participants.
On 17–18 June 2025, the 23rd AFSIS Focal Point Meeting was successfully convened in Yangon, Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation (MOALI) of Myanmar hosted the meeting in collaboration with the AFSIS Secretariat.
On 4-5 June 2025, The ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Secretariat, in collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan (RESTEC), and the Centre for Agricultural Data and Information System (CADIS), Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, successfully held a workshop titled "Promote Rice Planted Area and Production Estimation Using Space-Based Technologies in Indonesia" at Ra Premiere Simatupang Hotel, Jakarta.
On 21–22 May 2025, the ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Secretariat, with support from Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), convened The Regional Workshop on Emergency Information Sharing and Additional Commodity under the SAFER Project (Strengthening ASEAN Food Security Information System Function for Emergency). The workshop was held at the Pattaya Discovery Beach Hotel in Chonburi, Thailand.
On 19 May 2025, AFSIS Secretariat attended the online Kick-off Meeting on ASEAN+3 Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Phase 3 Cooperation Project (Cambodia) – PMC Service The meeting was conducted in collaboration with the Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Cambodia, and EGIS Korea Co., Ltd., as part of the ongoing establishment of Real-Time ASEAN Food Security Information System and Human Resource Development Project – 3rd Phase. This strategic cooperation is part of the pilot project focused on enhancing crop forecasting systems to strengthen food security in Cambodia, forming a critical component of the broader regional initiative.
