APEC PPFS Webinar 2022 at Bangkok, Thailand

On 23-24 May 2022, AFSIS Secretariat was invited by the Secretary General of the Office of Agricultural Economics, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand as Chair of APEC Policy Partnership on Food Security (PPFS) to attend the APEC PPFS Webinar on “Sharing good practices on Sustainable Agricultural Development through the Principle of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy” at Pullman King Power Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand.

 

2 representatives from AFSIS Secretariat attended the meeting which were Dr. Waraporn Saelee, AFSIS Manager, and Mr. Tanabodee Kheosipalard, Statistician.



The purposes of this webinar are to build the capacity of APEC members by sharing experiences, and best practices on promoting sustainable agriculture development in rural areas through the Principle of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) which is a method of development based on moderation, prudence, and social immunity.

 

During session 2: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Indicator 2.4.1 Sustainable Agriculture, Dr. Waraporn Saelee had introduced the AFSIS Project and presented the “Project for supporting Agricultural Survey on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in ASEAN Region (SAS-PSA)” which was conducted in 3 target countries namely Thailand, Lao PDR, and Cambodia to exchange views and share experiences on sustainable agriculture development practices through the project implementations, the result of the pilot survey, and recommendations and limitations in each country.

 

The webinar went successfully with great collaboration from all participants.

The self-sufficiency ratio (SSR) is a key indicator of food security. It shows how well Southeast Asian countries can meet rice demand through domestic production, with the region overall remaining increasingly self-sufficient despite ongoing challenges.

Asia and the Pacific Food Systems Forum 2026

On 19 March 2026, the AFSIS Secretariat participated in the Asia and the Pacific Food Systems Forum 2026 under the theme “Feeding the Future, Sustaining the Planet” in Manila, the Philippines, organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) . The forum aimed to promote food security policies, review ADB’s related initiatives, and support long-term food systems transformation.
