The Invitation Workshop on the Project for Establishing Real-time AFSIS and Human Resources Development

From 21–30 September 2025, the AFSIS Secretariat, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA), the Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC), the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (EPIS), and EGIS Co., Ltd., successfully hosted the Invitational Workshop on the Project for Establishing a Real-Time ASEAN Food Security Information System and Development of Human Resources. The event took place in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, bringing together representatives from 5 target countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

The workshop aimed to share the progress of the Real-Time AFSIS Project (Phase 3) currently implemented in Cambodia, as well as to enhance the capacity of participants in utilizing agricultural statistics, information and communication technology (ICT), and forecasting models for food security. In addition, the workshop served as a platform for ASEAN member states to present country reports and action plans to strengthen agricultural data management and food security frameworks in the ASEAN region.

The opening session was honored by the presence of distinguished representatives including:

  • Mr. Moon, Kyung-duk, Director of the Global Agricultural Development Team, MAFRA, Republic of Korea
  • Mr. Choi, Chan-won, Director of Global Center, KRC, Republic of Korea
  • Mr. Kim, Sung-ho, Chief Executive Officer of EGIS Company Limited, Republic of Korea

On this occasion, Dr. Sumanya Ngandee, AFSIS Manager, delivered the opening remarks and presented the current progress and future work plan of AFSIS.

Throughout the workshop, participants had opportunities to gain knowledge through lectures, discussions, and field visits to key agricultural and technological institutions in Korea, including the Agriculture Science Officer of the Rural Development Administration, the Gimje Agricultural Technology Center, and the Agriculture Expo at the aT Center. These activities allowed participants to learn about advanced technologies, Smart Agriculture, and the application of Geospatial Information Technologies for agricultural development in Korea.

The workshop concluded with participants presenting their action plans and country reports, which reflected their commitment to utilizing the National Agricultural Information System (NAIS) and applying lessons learned to enhancing food security management in their respective countries.

This workshop has further strengthened regional cooperation and knowledge exchange, paving the way for sustainable development of food security information systems across the ASEAN region.

The 1st Japan - Thailand Expert Dialogue on Agricultural Statistics

On 13–15 January 2026, the Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE), Thailand, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), Japan, and the AFSIS Secretariat, conducted the 1st Meeting of Japan–Thailand Expert Dialogue on Agricultural Statistics. The meeting was held at the Office of Agricultural Economics and field survey activities in Chonburi Province.

ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Table Top Exercise

On 3–4 December 2025, the ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Secretariat participated in the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Table Top Exercise (TTX) held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.

AFSIS and Development of Human Resources" in Cambodia On 27 November 2025, Mr. Charapon Chantorn, Deputy AFSIS Manager, participated in the Completion and Handover Ceremony of the project “Establishing the Real-Time ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) and Development of Human Resources, Phase 3 – Pilot Project on Strategic Crop Forecasting System for Food Security in Cambodia.” The ceremony was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and jointly hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) of the Republic of Korea, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Cambodia, and the Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC).

Satellite Applications for Societal Benefit Working Group (SAWG) in the APRSAF-31 meeting

AFSIS Participated in APRSAF-31 to Strengthen Space Technology Cooperation for Regional Food Security On 18–19 November 2025, in Cebu City, the Republic of the Philippines, the ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Secretariat, represented by Mr. Charapon Chantorn, Deputy AFSIS Manager, participated in the 31st Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-31). The Forum, a key platform for promoting regional cooperation in space technology across the Asia-Pacific region, was co-organized by the Philippines Space Agency (PhilSA), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan, and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
