The Special SOM-44th AMAF and the Special SOM-22nd AMAF Plus Three Meeting

The Special Senior Officials Meeting of the 44th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (SSOM-44th AMAF) and the Special Senior Officials Meeting of the 22nd Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry Plus Three (SSOM-22nd AMAF+3) were held during 22-23 August 2023, hosted by the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) as the virtual meeting.

For the SSOM-44th AMAF on 22 August 2023, the attendants were SOM AMAF Leaders, the ASEAN secretariat, and AFSIS Secretariat on agenda 5.1 regarding the ASEAN Plus Three agenda.

The representatives of the AFSIS Secretariat were Dr. Sumanya Ngandee, AFSIS Manager, Mr. Charapon Chantorn, Deputy AFSIS Manager, Mr. MIYAKE Yasuhiro, Japanese Expert, Ms. Worada Wongsud, Secretary to the Japanese Expert, and Ms. Prodpran Lomthong, Project Coordinator.

During the meeting, Dr. Sumanya reported the meeting of the outcomes and achievements of the AFSIS implementation in the 2022-2023(Q2) and future Workplan. Furthermore, the implementation plan for the sustainability of AFSIS including the concept note of AFSIS new framework which was endorsed in the 21st AFSIS Focal Point Meeting in May 2023 was presented in the aforesaid meetings.

The Meeting noted the progress of AFSIS implementation including a concept note of AFSIS new framework that will facilitate the way to sustain AFSIS in the future. The Meeting also acknowledged the importance of agricultural statistical data and information management in the ASEAN. Moreover, the meeting agreed to collaborate among the ASEAN Member States to strengthen food security in the ASEAN region and emphasized the importance of AFSIS.

On 19 March 2026, the AFSIS Secretariat participated in the Asia and the Pacific Food Systems Forum 2026 under the theme “Feeding the Future, Sustaining the Planet” in Manila, the Philippines, organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) . The forum aimed to promote food security policies, review ADB’s related initiatives, and support long-term food systems transformation.

The 14th Meeting of the APTERR Council, Siem Reap, Cambodia

On 5–6 March 2026, the AFSIS Secretariat participated in the 14th Meeting of the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Council via video conference, hosted by the Kingdom of Cambodia. The meeting brought together representatives from ASEAN Plus Three countries, the ASEAN Secretariat, the ASEAN Food Security Reserve Board (AFSRB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the APTERR Secretariat, and the AFSIS Secretariat to discuss key issues related to regional food security and emergency rice reserves.
