The Center for Agricultural Statistics (CAS), Department of Planning and Finance (DoPF), Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF), Lao PDR, together with AFSIS Secretariat, had conducted a Data Analysis Training in Lao PDR during 6-10 September 2021 as a part of project for Supporting Agricultural Survey on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in ASEAN Region or SAS-PSA project.
In this training, Mr. Sengphachan Khounthikoummane, the National Consultant of SAS-PSA project in Lao PDR had performed as a lead lecturer, along with Mr. NIIMI Tomohiro, the Japanese Expert as an advisor.
The purpose of the data analysis workshop is to develop the capacity building for CAS staff to be able to analyze the data obtained and understand the formula, themes and sub-indicator of SDG indicator 2.4.1 in order to calculate the proportion of agricultural area under productive and sustainable agriculture.
At the meeting, the CAS staff learnt to calculate the data using Microsoft Excel on SDG Sub-indicator 1-9 and 11 as well as using “R” program for SDG Sub-indicator 10.
The training went successfully with a great cooperation from both CAS staff and AFSIS Secretariat.
On Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 22:57 WITA, Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, one of Indonesia’s 120 active volcanoes, erupted on the island of Flores in East Nusa Tenggara province, The eruption, lasting 24 minutes (1,450 seconds), was recorded with a massive amplitude of 47.3 mm. On November 12, 2024, Dr. Sumanya Nagdee, AFSIS Manager, participated in the Completion and Handover Ceremony for the project "Establishing Real-Time ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) and Development of Human Resources 3rd Phase – Pilot Project on Strategic Crop Forecasting System for Food Security in Indonesia." The event, which took place in Jakarta, Indonesia, was supported by the Government of the Republic of Korea and This meeting was chaired by Ms. Intan Rahayu, Director of the Center of Agricultural Data and System Information (CADIS) under Indonesia's Ministry of Agriculture, and Mr. An Jaerok, Vice President of EPIS from South Korea, along with representatives from various sectors.

Local authorities are mobilizing resources to provide assistance and manage the unfolding disaster. As of October 30, the latest situation indicates that two cyclones struck the Philippines in quick succession, with Typhoon Leon entering the Philippine area of responsibility on October 26, just one day after Kristine departed.
