On 24 August 2021, the Special Senior Officials Meeting of the 20th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry Plus Three (Special SOM-20th AMAF +3) was held virtually as a Video Conference and honorably hosted by Cambodia.
The attendants were SOM AMAF Leaders, SOM Leaders Plus Three Countries, ASEAN Secretariat, APTERR Secretariat, and AFSIS Secretariat representatives, Dr. Waraporn Saelee, AFSIS Manager, and Ms. Poufai Khukhuntin, Project Coordinator.
In this regard, Dr. Waraporn had presented the outcomes of AFSIS implementation on 2020-2021:Q2, consisting of the administrative function and general management, human resources development, food security information development and reports on 5 main agricultural commodities in ASEAN.
Moreover, she stated one of the future plan to conduct the special meeting on “Discussion of Future of AFSIS” which approximately will be in the end of 2021. Furthermore, the progress of the Project for Supporting Agricultural Survey on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture (SAS-PSA), as well as the future work plan for 2022 were reported to the meeting.
The Meeting acknowledged the contribution of the Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand for leading AFSIS Secretariat and also expressed the heartfelt gratitude toward AFSIS’s consistent hard work to strengthening the food security in ASEAN.
On 12 July 2024, the AFSIS Secretariat convened an online meeting to discuss the draft Joint Understanding of the 22nd AFSIS Focal Point Meeting, marking a significant step towards ensuring the sustainability of the Agricultural and Food Security Information System (AFSIS). Chaired by Datuk Azah Hanim Ahmad, Deputy Secretary General (Policy) Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia. The meeting gathered AFSIS Focal Points from ASEAN plus Three countries along with representatives from the ASEAN secretariat and AFSIS secretariat.
On 28 June 2024, the AFSIS Secretariat was invited to join a significant meeting with the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) and the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Secretariat. The meetings aimed to discuss potential collaboration for exploring the LRBFR and to learn from their experiences over more than 10 years of operating the regional emergency rice reserve and the food security-related information-sharing system. which collaborative by Representatives from the Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE) of Thailand also participated in the discussion.
On 11-12 June 2024, the 22nd AFSIS Focal Point Meeting was conducted at Hybrid in Putrajaya, Malaysia. Hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia, in collaboration with the AFSIS Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Datuk Azah Hanim Ahmad, Deputy Secretary General (Policy), Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Malaysia.
The 44th Meeting of the ASEAN Food Security Reserve Board (AFSRB) convened on June 5-6, 2024 at the AMERI Hotel in Vang Vieng, Lao PDR.
