Field Survey in Lao PDR as A Part of SAS-PSA Project

Center for Agricultural Statistics (CAS), Department of Planning and Finance (DoPF), Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF), Lao PDR, had visited Khammouane province on 2-16 August 2021 to conduct a pilot survey for the project for Supporting Agricultural Survey on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in ASEAN region or SAS-PSA project.

The main objectives of the pilot survey are to develop capacity building together with strengthening knowledge and experience of enumerators on the SDG indicator 2.4.1. data collection. The survey was conducted by enumerators, they were assigned into 3 teams, 3 enumerators in each team, with a total of 9 enumerators for data collection in 10 districts of Khammouane province.

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, AFSIS Secretariat couldn’t join the field survey. Nevertheless, during the field survey, CAS proceeded to video call to AFSIS team for observation of how the enumerators collected data, ensure that the enumerators completed their work accurately, and support the enumerators in case they had any problems or questions.


This field survey of the SAS-PSA project went successfully with the hard work of CAS and the great support of the farmers in Khammouane province.

The 14th Meeting of the APTERR Council, Siem Reap, Cambodia

On 5–6 March 2026, the AFSIS Secretariat participated in the 14th Meeting of the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Council via video conference, hosted by the Kingdom of Cambodia. The meeting brought together representatives from ASEAN Plus Three countries, the ASEAN Secretariat, the ASEAN Food Security Reserve Board (AFSRB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the APTERR Secretariat, and the AFSIS Secretariat to discuss key issues related to regional food security and emergency rice reserves.

On 18 February 2026, the AFSIS Secretariat participated in the international event Google’s “Impact of AI on Global Agriculture,” organized by Google.org at Roseate House, Aerocity, New Delhi, India.

In-Country Workshop on Promoting Rice Planted Area and Production Estimation Using Space-based Technologies in Vientian Lao PDR

The In-Country Workshop on Promoting Rice Planted Area and Production Estimation Using Space-based Technologies in Lao PDR was jointly organized by AFSIS Secretariat, JAXA, MAFF Japan, and MAE Lao PDR under the AFSIS-GIS and SAFE projects. The event was held in Vientiane with hands-on training on 9 February 2026 and a workshop on 10 February 2026.
